What is IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a long-standing assisted reproductive technique applied to couples who cannot have children. Today, IVF is one of the most preferred infertility treatments.

In vitro fertilization treatment involves the collection of eggs, which are female reproductive cells, and combining them with sperm, which are male reproductive cells, outside the body in a laboratory environment to achieve fertilization. The difference from natural pregnancy is that the fertilization process is carried out under laboratory conditions and the fertilized eggs are placed back into the mother's uterus.

What are the Stages of IVF Treatment?
  • In consultation with the physician, expectant parents should decide how the treatment will proceed after the examination and tests.
  • After the examination, a number of tests are requested from the man and woman along with the findings.
  • After the tests and examination, the 2nd or 3rd day of menstruation is waited and drug treatment is started.
  • Medicines are used on average 8-10 days until the day of egg collection according to the doctor's order.
  • In this process, you will be checked periodically and the eggs will be monitored.
  • After hormone supplementation, when the eggs reach a certain maturity, a hatching injection (HCG) is administered. the time of this injection is very important and is calculated according to the egg collection time.
  • On the appointed day and time, the maturing eggs are collected under light sedation in the operating room. A sperm sample is taken from the man on the same day as the egg collection (Opu procedure).
  • The collected eggs and sperm are fertilized in a laboratory environment after undergoing some procedures by the embryologist.
  • Embryo number and quality are monitored.
  • The developed and high quality embryo is transferred to the uterus of the expectant mother. No anesthesia is given during this procedure. The only requirement is that the expectant mother must be able to urinate. This is because the bladder presses against the uterus, so that the catheter can move more easily through the uterus.
  • After the transfer, the expectant mother is monitored for half an hour and discharged.
  • Information is given about the issues to be considered and the medications to be used.
  • After the transfer, it is recommended to rest for about 2-3 days. He is then allowed to do his routine work.
  • It is recommended to avoid constipation.
  • It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids.
  • 12 days after the procedure, a blood pregnancy test is performed and she is told to report the result.
